Christian Life Theme

in Features by

The Christian Life theme for the month is “You are Redeemed.” As the new year came about, Christian Life director Greg Lisson decided it would be appropriate for the theme to be “You are Redeemed.” The theme is appropriate because it talks about how we are a new person in Jesus Christ. We are no longer a slave to sin through the work of Jesus.

The verses for the month are Revelation 5:9-10 which states, “And they sang a new song, saying: ‘You are worthy to take the scroll/ and to open its seals,/ because you were slain,/ and with your blood you purchased for God/ persons from every tribe and language and people and nation./ You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth’” and 1 Peter 1:18-19 which states, “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”

Lisson was very excited about the theme for the month saying “I just love that purchasing imagery, it reminds us of the idea that there is a cost.” 1 Corinthians 6 talks about being purchased back by Christ, and how believers are now in a different state of life.

Tegan from South Africa kicked off the semester talking about how we are no longer slaves to sin. We have been rescued by Jesus, and that should lead us to live fuller lives. Mr. Scheer talked the next week, and compared the redeemed life with the life of Martin Luther King Jr. He talked about how Christians will have to wait longer than expected, will have doubts, be disappointed but will one day have rewards beyond imagination in heaven.
