Date Night at Wesleyan

in Backpage by

It’s that time of year again when the leaves start turning, the temperature begins dropping, and the warm-fuzzy feeling of love is all around! Fall is undeniably the most romantic season of the year, a time when you can hold a pumpkin spice latte in one hand and the palm of your love in the other. As the autumn leaves begin to fall, the Wesleyan dating scene begins to flourish. It is not uncommon to see couples strolling through the Forum, wearing matching sweaters or frolicking across the grassy knolls of Technology Parkway on the weekends. But during the school week, shared trips to and from the lake lots, lunch dates at Dubose dining hall and talking together on the quad all help to make the romance last throughout the week! But the most popular activity endorsed by Wesleyan couples is definitely grabbing a meal after school or practices.

Rumor has it the top places to eat are California Pizza Kitchen and Chipotle, so I teamed up with Quinn Kaloper to find out just how romantic these restaurants really are. And to top this investigation off, we joined Wesleyan’s hottest couple, Ms. Alex Bufton and Mr. Chris Paroli, for a surprise excursion to their favorite date night spot!

California Pizza Kitchen:

California Pizza Kitchen (also known as CPK) is definitely America’s unofficial favorite restaurant. In fact, out of 200 restaurants, Forbes ranked California Pizza Kitchen at 192. The friendly hostess’ accompanied with moody dim lighting and semi-comfortable booths make for a good atmosphere. And the menu contains quite a variety of scrumptious delights, including everything from the “Crispy Mac ‘N’ Cheese” to the “Original Barbecue Chicken Pizza.” The waiters are nice and the water is crisp, but nothing compares to the gentle stare you share with your bae as you both munch on your “Shaved Mushroom and Spinach Flatbread” appetizer. Junior Lindsey Hayes said, “I love CPK because it has great service and is an awesome place to go for a casual lunch or dinner, or if you want to dress up you can go there for a fancy dinner too. It has great food and is in a great location.” Lindsey, we couldn’t agree more.

Chipotle:

Chipotle has many great date night qualities. Just think, it’s almost as cold as Wesleyan in the restaurant so your date can give you their jacket; which is romantic. The music is groovy and happy, so it will put you in a good mood. Also, the food is amazing. Who cares about maybe getting E.coli? Also, there are no GMOs; grandmas, mothers, or others. While the interior design seems a bit barren, the lighting and decoration are so industrial you’ll feel like Bob the Builder (not to mention you may or may not get your finger stuck in the artsy wall with all the holes). The minimalistic décor allows you to focus on the most important thing right across from your face, bae. Chipotle regular, Payton Kaloper said, “I love Chipotle. I like how fresh the food is and I feel so healthy eating it.”

Surprise Date:

After endless rescheduling, a time was finally set to meet up with Wesleyan’s hottest couple, Alex Bufton and Chris Paroli, and go out on a double date. The only instructions given were to “wear something nice” and meet in the Hoover parking lot at 7:50 p.m., we pulled in right on time dressed in our Sunday best. We hopped in the car and took off to the surprise destination. On the way there, Bufton and Paroli indulged us in their own love story citing this location as their first date, and even going on to say that it was “Mr. Paroli’s favorite restaurant.” They both agreed that “sparks were flying on the first date.”

We merged onto Highway 141, crossed over two lanes, got in the left turning lane at the Peachtree Corners Circle and 141 intersection and made a U-turn. Shortly thereafter, we pulled into QuikTrip (QT).

“Here we are,” Bufton exclaimed. We looked at each other, confused.

After Bufton gave us a tour through the aisles of rolling taquitos, providing that “the hotdogs [were her] personal favorite,” we headed over to the QT Kitchen to place our order. But trouble arose as we struggled to order from the self-checkout. But it wasn’t until we found out that they were out of pizza sauce (after we ordered four pizzas), that Bufton and Paroli decided to revert to Plan B, Moe’s. Initially Bufton and Paroli’s QT date came as surprise to us, but after a thorough observation of the physical and emotional attributes that accompanied this certain location we began to understand just how special this place really was, despite the lack of seating. But between clean floors, a friendly staff and a variety of healthy options for everyone, QuikTrip is truly the dark horse of date nights.

With our hopes still high, we crossed the street and decided to give this date night another try. Immediately, upon entering the famous Mexican restaurant, we were bombarded with a hearty “Welcome to Moe’s.” After ordering a chicken quesadilla we seated ourselves. The friendly staff along with the Coke Freestyle machine and queso are certainly positive assets, however the overall cleanliness of the restaurant is enough to keep couples away from this particular joint.

So if you’re looking for love this fall season, don’t be in dismay. There are plenty of date night spots in the Peachtree Corners neighborhood that will ignite the sparks between you and bae.
