Welcoming Freshmen on the Freshman Retreat

in Features by

As the summer comes to an end and school begins, the Freshman Retreat is an annual tradition that brings all the rising freshmen together to celebrate the beginning of their high school career. This year, the Freshman Retreat was held at Carolina Point Young Life Camp where the students went to church sessions, played fun games and swam.

Peer leaders bonded with their freshmen groups and grew closer as a peer “family.” This year, there are 26 peer leaders, making 13 couples, which are comprised of all seniors. Each couple mentors and spends time with a group of nine to ten freshmen throughout the year. The peer leaders had opportunities to be with their groups through games, group devotion time and meals throughout the retreat. Keep Reading

Heartbroken to Healed: Wesleyan Finds Love with Blackbaud

in Editorial by

While many students were eagerly awaiting the drama and romance of weekly episodes of ABC’s “The Bachelorette” this summer, a juicy new relationship was formed in Wesleyan cyberspace, unbeknownst to many. Students Express Themselves Through AP Art

in Fine Arts by

When thinking about Advanced Placement courses, AP is often perceived as one of the “easier” AP classes in the eyes of some students. AP Art, however, is one of the most challenging AP’s Wesleyan has to offer with one of the heaviest workloads.

For these artists, their work starts in the summer with the completion of their summer visual journal. Over the summer, the AP Art students each had to complete a summer visual journal full of their work. Artists had to complete 10 pieces of art and photographers had to complete 100 pieces. Many students had to come to school to work on their pieces using the resources at Wesleyan. These pieces are used to make a base and see the artists’ basic skills, and some of their pieces can be used for final projects. “I loved working on my visual journal over the summer. I planned my pieces for the year and got to do some experimenting. I am really happy with how my pages turned out,” said Senior Ashton Cameron.
