Sex Trafficking Awareness: Why it Matters

With January being sex trafficking awareness month, Wesleyan wanted to spread awareness about the issue of sex trafficking through the Wesleyan School community. With the help of students and teachers, the school brought Eboni Belle, Director of Outreach and Operations at Street Grace, to come to Wesleyan and speak about sex trafficking. Belle talked about the grooming process, trafficker’s tactics, the “do’s and don’ts” and why being a careful and aware resident in Atlanta is crucial.

A Golden Start to 2020

Just five days after ringing in the New Year, the 77^th annual Golden Globe Awards took place in Beverly Hills, Calif. on Jan. 5. This was a memorable event where all of Hollywood’s finest gathered together to be recognized for their monumental accomplishments in the film industry. The awards and achievements of the celebrities were unforgettable, and stars that strutted the red carpet dressed in high-fashion, designer pieces kept heads turning all night long.

Lindsay Rappe in kindergarten.

If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you bring with you?

A phone, a cellular tower and Braden Thorne’s angelic vocals.

What was your dream job when you were a little kid versus what is your dream job now?

Actor versus Actor.

Where do you expect to see yourself in 10 years?

Being an actor.

What was your most embarrassing moment at Wesleyan?

One time, I forgot to come onstage for a good seven minutes and the cast was running around looking for me. The orchestra was playing in a vamp for the whole time and the audience was incredibly confused. They found me later just hanging out upstairs. Also, I never went on stage. Carter Gravitt just said my lines.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be? Sushi.

What are you most excited and scared for when entering your first year of college?

Saying goodbye to my friends of old.

Looking Back on the 2010s

With the 2010s decade coming to an end, the world is saying goodbye to a time of interesting trends and memories. The favorites movies, television shows, celebrities, songs, devices and trends of the decade have been hot topics of discussion recently, and Wesleyan’s high school students chose their personal favorites from their childhood years.

Movies:

2010s movies impacted peoples’ minds and hearts, and the top movies made the decade memorable. According to Statistica, the top genres of the decade include adventure, action, drama, comedy and thrillers. Movies such as “Tangled” (2010), “The Hunger Games” (2012), “The Fault in Our Stars” (2014), “Inside Out” (2015), “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (2015) and many more made their mark in the first half of the decade. More recently, Disney’s “Moana” (2016), “Black Panther” (2018) and “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” (2018) reached the top of the charts as successful films. Keep Reading

Are You Curious about the Curiosity Lab?

Peachtree Corners has been gearing up Technology Parkway for the past year to present its new 5G-enabled Curiosity Lab. It will not only help all forms of technology to be able to communicate with each other, but it will also help innovate the way technology is used. On Sept. 11, 2019, the Curiosity Lab officially opened to the public its 500-acre laboratory with new advanced technology, which includes a 1.5-mile-long test track that is being used to test autonomous vehicles on a public roadway.

The main purpose of this non-profit lab is designed to let many technological designers collaborate and get support from mentors and office space to help create their new startups that will hopefully be used shortly statewide. One of the main new excitements has been the Olli which is Local Motors self-driving shuttle that rides along Curiosity Lab’s test track.

On Oct. 1, 2019, two Olli shuttles were put to the test, transporting people all around Technology Parkway. Associate Director of the Curiosity Lab Caitlin Ferguson said, “Olli is a fully level five autonomous vehicle which means it is completely driving itself. It is taking data in, learning and making decisions as it goes.” This self- driving vehicle gives just a small glimpse of what the laboratory has to offer with all these new startups coming together.
