On Feb. 1, the Wesleyan high school students got to take a break from the stress of everyday life and school and enjoy a wonderful night at the Winter Dance. Students put on their best attire for the masquerade-themed Winter Dance and headed over to Hoover Gymnasium for a memorable night. The Winter Dance is always highly anticipated by the Wesleyan students. The boys took a break from the nerves of asking the girls to each high school dance, and the girls took their big chance to ask the boys. Student government spent copious amount of time planning and preparing the Winter Dance so it would be the best Winter Dance yet. After months of planning the dance, it had finally arrived, and students were eager for the masquerade ball. With the famed DJ Fat Snacks providing some awesome tunes on the dance floor, the lively photo booth, the delicious refreshments, and the mysterious table of masks, the students and faculty raved about the success of the dance.

The mirror is a powerful possession, simply because it has the influence of an inescapable truth: a reflection. When someone gazes into a mirror, there are no edits or touch ups or Photoshop. There is nothing but reality in the form of a reflection, a truth everyone has to come to terms with. Whatever truth is produced through this reflection has massive effects on the human spirit and mind. These effects are magnified even more by what a person carries with them to the mirror. Everyone brings something to the mirror.  The triumph, tragedies, perceptions, perspectives and most importantly, the words that have been seared into them by others.  These emotional and mental weights distort the already mighty reflection, causing a person to become a slave to the mirror and feel despairing to any chances of changing what they see.  For some, this experience is all too real.

“Tuck Everlasting” is a story about a young girl who stumbles upon a family of immortal individuals and teaches them what it means to enjoy life, no matter how long or short it may be. This lesson can be applied and carried out in the lives of every audience member in attendance. Wesleyan Fine Arts premiered their first production of “Tuck Everlasting” on Feb. 5. “Tuck Everlasting” is a story with grandiose meaning and many lessons to be learned from the characters. English Teacher and Assistant Director Cameron Alexander, senior Adam Rogers and junior Constance Harris gave insight as to what it means to not take your life for granted and to live a full and meaningful life as long as you can. Valentine’s Day is an ignored holiday for some, but for others, it is one of the best days of the year and is a time for celebration. Valentine’s Day gets its name from Saint Valentine who was a part of the Catholic Church. Some people believe that he was a priest back from the third century of Rome. He symbolizes love because Emperor Claudius the second declared that single men make better soldiers, and he stopped allowing young men to get married. Saint Valentine saw this as an injustice, so he continued to marry young men and women in secret. He was later sentenced to death, yet he was thought of as a hero for many. People believe mid- February was when he was killed which is why Valentine’s Day is celebrated on Feb. 14.

Valentine’s Day is a day where love is celebrated. People love this holiday for many different reasons, whether it be candy or being with loved ones. A survey went out to the Wesleyan High School to ask what student’s opinions are about Valentine’s Day with the first question asking, “Are you looking forward to Valentine’s Day?”. The results came back with yes getting 58 percent of the votes. Question two asked what is the best Valentine’s Day candy. The options were Sweet Tart Lollipops, candy hearts, a box of chocolates and Reese’s Hearts. The winner with 39 percent of the votes was a box of chocolates. Keep Reading

Super Bowl LIV was both the best super bowl and the worst super bowl in NFL history. The game was played in Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, the home of the Miami dolphins. It was the 11th Super Bowl ever to be played in Miami, surpassing the city of New Orleans, Louisiana which has hosted 10. The game was a matchup between the San Francisco 49ers, the number one seed in the National Football Conference, versus the number two seed in the American Football Conference, the Kansas City Chiefs.
