Movies and TV Shows of 2025

March 18, 2026

The year 2025 brought viewers new, entertaining movies and TV shows, some exceptional and some more frequently criticized. From “Stranger Things” to the “Housemaid,” students have all types of differing opinions on this past year’s entertainment.

The first big movie to come out in 2025 was the reboot of “Superman,” which follows David Corenswet as Superman as he struggles to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human life as Clark Kent in a world that increasingly views his ideals as outdated. Lex Luthor frames him for an incident, hurting his reputation and turning the public against him. With help from Lois Lane and his allies, Superman fights to expose Luthor’s scheme and restore hope to his city of Metropolis. Junior Easton Selbee said, “The Superman portrayed in this movie showed a true, pure of heart superhero, who set a great example for children, and who you should think of when you think of Superman.”

Many students over the summer enjoyed Superman.

Another popular movie to first air in 2025 was Housemaid, starring Sydney Sweeney. This movie came out in December and was an instant hit among the girls at Wesleyan. The story follows Millie Calloway taking a maid job with a wealthy family, soon sensing that something is very wrong behind their perfect image. What she hoped would be a fresh start slowly turns into a dangerous situation, filled with secrets and manipulation. Latin Teacher Kira McBride said, “Sydney Sweeney’s character was rougher around the edges than I expected, which made it more interesting. It also had a very engaging plot, and I personally thought the plot twist was insane.”

A new all-original movie also came to theaters this year called “Sinners.” The movie Starring Michael B. Jordan playing two roles as brothers, his characters opens a club where vampires are attracted to the music it plays. English teacher and junior boys grade chair Brooks Hanrahan got to experience the movie on opening weekend in IMAX theaters. Hanrahan said, “It was super cool to see it in IMAX theaters because they shot the movie with IMAX cameras which are hard to work, and it made the movie all the more special. To see an original film to gain that much attraction is special to see.”

The finale of Strangers Things aired in 2025 with new episodes dropping separately spreading from November to New Years Eve, and many students share various opinions. It follows the original Hawkins crew as they reunite to track down the vanished Vecna while the town falls under military quarantine. Eleven is forced to hide from the government while the group braces for a final battle against the Upside Down. Junior Ralph Sanders said, “It’s a fairy tale ending with heartbreak, but I think it ties every season together.” 11th grader Kyle Baxley straight up said, “It was an insane build up for a stupid, four-minute fight.” Elijah Abraham said the exact same thing. “The fight scene was so hyped up for nothing.”

Students had various opinion on Strager Things season five.

Another show to air in 2025 was “The Pitt”. “The Pitt” follows an ER team working one extremely hectic 15‑hour shift at a busy, underfunded Pittsburgh hospital. The show highlights nonstop emergencies, tough decisions, and the personal stress doctors and nurses face as they try to keep patients alive while managing their own emotional strain. A horror TV prequal to came out as well. “It: Welcome to Derry” is a prequel set in 1962, following a family that moves to Derry right as a young boy vanishes and strange events begin unsettling the town. As more children go missing and eerie incidents pile up, it becomes clear something ancient and malicious is waking beneath Derry. The series explores the early rise of Pennywise, tying the town’s violent history and long‑buried tragedies to the creature’s growing influence. It sets the stage for the terror that will eventually haunt Derry for generations. More popular TV shows to come in 2025 include “Adolescence”, and “The Bear”.

With 2026 starting, people are excited for upcoming movies and TV shows. Such as “The Odyssey”, “Dune III,” “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,” and “Avengers: DoomsDay” The year 2025 was a great year for film, and 2026 will hopefully prove to be all the better.
