The Peru mission trip team embarked on their trip from Saturday, March 7 until Saturday, March 14 and spent their spring break serving the rural community of Manchay on the outskirts of Lima, the nation’s capital. This trip was led by assistant director of college advising Andrea Shupert, modern and classical languages teacher Taylor Gronewoller, twelfth grade boys chair and modern and classical languages teacher Philip Hart, and modern and classical languages teacher Kathe Hart. The team of four adults and fifteen students ventured to Peru to work with the Kids Alive organization and support young and old members of the community who have struggled with family situations, education, and stability. Senior Bianca Woomer who traveled to Belize last spring break for a mission trip and went on the Peru mission trip said, “I have family ties in Peru which makes this place really special to me, and I loved getting to serve this community that I’ve grown up seeing.”

Grace Li’s journal – 03/30/2026
“I could not be more thankful for the 4–5-year-olds at VBS today. I was so pleasantly surprised by how they reacted and interacted with us because I was a bit discouraged from the teens this morning. Obviously, the language barrier is hard, but we were talking about some pretty deep stuff, and I just couldn’t speak. However, the little kids were so sweet and patient with me when the only things I was saying were gracias and Hola. They still talked to me, asked me questions, and played like it was no big deal. Speaking of that, I’m so beyond grateful to Mrs. Hart, Mrs. Shupert, Mary Grant, Kyle, Ava, and David. We were all with the 4–5-year-olds and I would literally send a kid to them every 5 seconds or be asking them to interpret something for me. They were all so patient and helpful, and I learned so many things today thanks to them.”
