As the 2018-2019 Wesleyan school year comes to an end, spring sports teams are giving their last effort to end their seasons on high notes.
Lacrosse:
The Girls’ Lacrosse team has had a season full of success with seven seniors leading the way. Freshman Gray Bradach said, “I am 100% going to miss the seniors so much. There are so many of them and they are all such great people and teammates and players. Chloe, Elise, Tabi, Katie, Quinn, Lauren, Anna, and Grace. They are genuinely some of the greatest people I have ever met.” The dynamic among the players is one that will be missed by the seniors and for the underclassmen that look up to the older players. One tradition the Lacrosse team shares is “eating uncrustables before most games,” said Bradach.
As the month of February shifts out of focus, March brings in a new celebration spotlighting Women’s History. An integral part of this month is to show the traits of perseverance, resilience and bravery women have within them.
Annually, the month of March attracts male and female spectators who create brackets and bet against odds for the NCAA’s Men’s Division 1 Basketball Tournament. March Madness features 68 teams who compete against each other until there is a champion. Last year, Villanova beat Michigan to become the 2018 National Champions. This year, each team has a chance to come out on top and show scouts and the NCAA how much talent they have. Keep Reading
On Feb. 3, the New England Patriots faced off against the Los Angeles Rams in a very leisurely moving and low scoring Super Bowl located in Atlanta. Many fans were irritated due to the game’s mundane nature—not to mention the thousands of dollars spent per person—although, towards the end, the energy heightened after Patriots running back Sony Michel scored the first touchdown in the fourth quarter to ultimately close the deal and hand the Patriots their sixth Super Bowl win.
This event was not limited to Patriots or Rams fans. Supporters from all over the nation gathered in the city of Atlanta, including devotees who belonged to various NFL teams and a sufficient amount of celebrities ranging from Danny DeVito to Atlanta native, Ludacris. With every substantial event that invites thousands of people to a singular venue, it benefits the hosting city. Atlanta will acquire benefits from the location of the Mercedes-Benz stadium and transportation such as MARTA and Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. Additionally, other benefits are the lodging and food expenses. The financial investments and loss coming from fans and viewers translates to a major gain for Atlanta.
