The month of December is here. While students may be dreaming of sugarplums, Christmas cookies and rare free time, December also brings the nightmare of first semester exams. During the week of Dec. 10-16, students will rush around the halls to find answers to last minute questions and discuss strategies for the ominous free response questions.

Exams put students into a full-on frenzy, as they often prove to be the most difficult class assessments. Sophomore Tatum Connor said that unlike regular tests, exams cover “a lot more material, and studying for them is more time-consuming.”

How to “Make” Someone’s Christmas

As Christmas rolls around, everyone races to find the perfect gift for their loved ones. However, as high school students, we often have higher expectations for these gifts than the reality of our wallets and schedules can meet.

Senior Cassie Henning said, “Though buying gifts is easier, it often costs more than making them.” Not only is it more cost effective, but junior Chloe Hangartner said that “it’s often more meaningful to my friends to make a gift, rather than buying one.”

Marching Wolves “Dual” For Victory

With less than ideal conditions including heavy winds, exhausted musicians, an unfinished performance and strong competition, the Marching Wolves were both shocked and excited to discover their numerous victories at the Oconee Classic Marching Contest on Sept. 30.

At the competition hosted by Baldwin High School, the Wesleyan band faced 19 others in five classifications, ranging from bands with under 40 members to those with over 400. As the classification is determined by the number of woodwinds and brass members in a marching band, Wesleyan is numerically set to perform in the single A division; however, to give them the advantage of a later performance and a larger audience, the Marching Wolves chose to perform against two other bands in the AA classification.

The Strength of the Wolf is the Pack

Wesleyan super fans, while fond of Friday night lights, go out of their way to support other athletic and artistic endeavors. Whether it is witnessing the girls’ volleyball team ace Parkview, enduring the sauna-like heat of the natatorium to cheer on the Water Polo Wolves or congratulating cross country runners for a race well run on an early Saturday morning, these people give their all to show athletes the true meaning of community.

Each Friday night, Wesleyan super fans crowd Henderson Stadium to watch another battle between the Wolves and their opponent. One can hear the combined roar of an ecstatic student section and an upbeat marching band from all the way across Technology Parkway, signaling the epic finale of another great game: “Onward Wesleyan … in all we do, for victory we will fight! Heartbroken to Healed: Wesleyan Finds Love with Blackbaud

While many students were eagerly awaiting the drama and romance of weekly episodes of ABC’s “The Bachelorette” this summer, a juicy new relationship was formed in Wesleyan cyberspace, unbeknownst to many. Over the last few months, hearts were broken and re-healed as Wesleyan technology went from an ugly, but necessary breakup with PowerSchool to finding love again with the advanced, all-in-one system that is Blackbaud.

As many people know, the Wesleyan community was having serious issues with PowerSchool towards the end of last year, as frustrations rose with its secrecy and continuous problems. Not only was the popular grading website hiding secrets from students such as their current and past GPAs, but it was simply unable to offer adequate information and conversation.
