From binging Netflix, to exercising, to dying hair and more, the world is being faced with an unlimited amount of free time. The Coronavirus outbreak has caused the country to go on lockdown mode, causing families everywhere to self-quarantine. Without being able to see friends, go to school or even walk down the streets in some states, society is stuck at home trying to come up with fun things to occupy their time with. All around the globe, people are longing for new opportunities, new relationships and hopefully a better year. This is generally what is going on in the minds of resolution makers at this time of the year.

Resolutions can either be a great way to motivate a person, or they can be unreachable and can set one up to fail. According to the New York Post, “55% of New Year’s resolutions were health related.” Most people around the world want to make themselves better by getting rid of old and bad habits. Plastic’s Influence on the Environment

There has been a sudden movement toward the care and awareness of the environment in the United States. Do these people who seemingly care for the environment truly want to help the Earth, or do they do it because of the newly popular “VSCO girl” label?

The effect of plastic and litter on the Earth is huge and needs more awareness. When asked about these effects, biology teacher Megan Trotter said, “I think we are unaware of our plastic [use] in everyday life.” Junior Katherine Graddy also said, “If we continue to ignore the issue of plastic and litter on the Earth, then we will regret it when it’s too late. We only have one planet, so we need to do everything that we can to keep it clean and usable.” Significant movements have been made around the United States to limit plastic usage and waste, causing metal straws, paper straws and other straw alternatives to become more prominent.
