  1. They deal with real life issues: The Kardashians are one of the most relatable families in America. They constantly deal with issues that typical Americans face. When Kendall and Kylie steal from Kris’s closet, she does the logical thing and puts a padlock on it, while requiring them to check out clothes. Also, Scott Disick faces the typical decision of whether or not to put a helicopter pad in his backyard. All of these decisions are typically experienced be the average American.
  2. They have the most entertaining TV show:  If you have not watched Keeping Up with the Kardashians, then you must be living under a rock. This show provides the most entertaining look into the life of the most beloved family in American history. The constant bickering and complaining of the most mundane events is just pure entertainment. Who would not want to watch mindless entertainment for an hour?
  3. They are very frugal with their money: Kylie Jenner is 18-years-old and owns a mansion worth $2.7 million. I mean, every 18-year-old would spend that much on a house. Back in 2014, Scott and Kourtney purchased a house next to Justin Bieber for $8.495 million. Most parents spend that much money and consider it to be smart. The so-called gift bags at Kylie Jenner’s sweet 16 party cost $1,000 each, and there were over 150 guests there. Now that’s being frugal with your money.
  4. They constantly keep us entertained in headlines: Let’s face it America, the Kardashians are headline news about once a week. From their purchases, to Kylie and Tyga’s relationship, the Kardashians keep us entertained. Magazine companies who put them on the front page, owe a lot of their success to those stories. As of November of 2015, there is now a new app that allows you to block all news in which the Kardashians are mentioned. That’s when you know they dominate the news. The Kylie Jenner lip challenge, the $2 million Gatsby themed 60th birthday of Kris and the Khloe pie lie are all examples of headlines that keep readers hooked.
  5. All their relationships are models for our own: Kim Kardashian is a model for how people should have relationships. Her 72 day marriage to Kris Humphries should show the women of America how marriage works. Kourtney and Scott’s catastrophic relationship really sets the tone for the average American relationship. They show that you should constantly argue about the most absurd things.

Christian Life Theme

in Features by
  • redeemed_t_nv-e1453673015591.jpg

The Christian Life theme for the month is “You are Redeemed.” As the new year came about, Christian Life director Greg Lisson decided it would be appropriate for the theme to be “You are Redeemed.” The theme is appropriate because it talks about how we are a new person in Jesus Christ. We are no longer a slave to sin through the work of Jesus.

The verses for the month are Revelation 5:9-10 which states, “And they sang a new song, saying: ‘You are worthy to take the scroll/ and to open its seals,/ because you were slain,/ and with your blood you purchased for God/ persons from every tribe and language and people and nation./ You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth’” and 1 Peter 1:18-19 which states, “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”

Lisson was very excited about the theme for the month saying “I just love that purchasing imagery, it reminds us of the idea that there is a cost.” 1 Corinthians 6 talks about being purchased back by Christ, and how believers are now in a different state of life.

Tegan from South Africa kicked off the semester talking about how we are no longer slaves to sin. We have been rescued by Jesus, and that should lead us to live fuller lives. Mr. Scheer talked the next week, and compared the redeemed life with the life of Martin Luther King Jr. He talked about how Christians will have to wait longer than expected, will have doubts, be disappointed but will one day have rewards beyond imagination in heaven.

The 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards combined the best of both television and cinema for the 2015-2016 year into one awards show. Comedian Ricky Gervais returned for his fourth hosting gig, and he provided a surprisingly tame and entertaining awards entrance. Having gotten in trouble in the past, Gervais held back on a few jokes that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association would have frowned upon. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is a group of journalists responsible for picking the winners of the Golden Globes.
