Recipe for Last Minute DIY Halloween Costumes

in Editorial by

There are many ways to incorporate your interests into an exciting Halloween costume.

Senior Grayson Ragsdale dressed up one year as a Roy Liechtenstein comic book character, which included “a ton of makeup but was super fun.” In addition to the excitement of wearing something that you created, there are many advantages that come with wearing a DIY (do it yourself) costume, and according to senior Sarah Moon, “you can save money and show off your creativity.”

Senior Cassie Henning said, “I love making my own costumes because I can add my own personal flare.”

Major disclaimer: I am not artistic by any means, so if I am able to make these DIY Halloween costumes all by myself, I know that you can do the same. If you are in a pinch on Oct. 31 and have been too busy to create a look that is grandiose and frightening all at the same time, just follow one of the “recipes” below to master the perfect Halloween look. Secret Gems in Peachtree Corners

in Features by

Wesleyan is in a prime location, surrounded by numerous restaurants that feed all the needs and cravings of its students, faculty and families. Bigger named restaurants such as Chipotle or California Pizza Kitchen are always full of Wesleyan members, but there are many places that not many people have even heard of. Places like Hog and Ale, Dagwood’s, Gino’s Pizza and Pita all surround the Wesleyan bubble, yet people rarely go to them (so I thought).

As I conducted a poll from the current junior and senior class, I came to realize 35 seniors and 27 juniors have all eaten at one or more of the restaurants listed above. Due to that unexpected number, I decided to take matters into my own hands and eat, observe and critique each place. I was thoroughly satisfied with my results, and I will recommend any of these places to people in the future.  Keep Reading

Welcoming Freshmen on the Freshman Retreat

in Features by

As the summer comes to an end and school begins, the Freshman Retreat is an annual tradition that brings all the rising freshmen together to celebrate the beginning of their high school career. This year, the Freshman Retreat was held at Carolina Point Young Life Camp where the students went to church sessions, played fun games and swam.

Peer leaders bonded with their freshmen groups and grew closer as a peer “family.” This year, there are 26 peer leaders, making 13 couples, which are comprised of all seniors. Each couple mentors and spends time with a group of nine to ten freshmen throughout the year. The peer leaders had opportunities to be with their groups through games, group devotion time and meals throughout the retreat. Keep Reading
