Girls’ Basketball Team: Journey to State

After a season full of rebounding, blocking and shooting, the girls’ basketball team’s season ended at the Macon Centreplex on March 6. From October through March, the team invested several hours after school and on weekends improving their basketball skills.

The team officially began their season back in November against Pace Academy and were victorious against them with a win of 64-21. The team was always on the move, as they traveled to different schools for games and tournaments.

Freshman Kaylynn Kirklen said, “My favorite memory from basketball was being in the locker room and dancing with the team before both home and away games.”

NBA Season 2018-2019: Who Will be on Top?

There are three letters that associate LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kyrie Irving together: NBA. This year for the NBA season, the biggest game changer for both the Eastern and Western conference was LeBron James joining Lonzo Ball and the Los Angeles Lakers after several years of playing with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

According to NBA statistics, as of Jan. 15, LeBron James has an average of 27.3 points and an average of 8.3 rebounds per game during his time with the Lakers (ESPN). He, however, is recovering from an injury which does not permit him to play with his team on the court.

Basketball Rebounds into the Winter Season

During the winter season, Yancey Gymnasium is filled with boys and girls playing one sport: basketball. The boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball teams have worked extremely hard during preseason to prepare for the 2018-2019 season.

Sophomore basketball player, Paige Lyons, said, “During the preseason, the girls’ basketball team spends five days doing open gym. We also do strength and conditioning for a couple of weeks before the season officially starts.”

Coach Wolf Gets Wesleyan Athletes into Shape

While winter season sports are coming to an end, the spring conditioning is just beginning with Coach Dustin Wolf. Coach Wolf pushes all of his athletes to train well, so they are able to play well.

Wolf’s mission is to help each sport reach its full potential during game time. Sophomore basketball player Callie Weaver said that, “I think it’s worthwhile because I can see a difference in my game in the winter through my strength and stability, and I think you can see it in the whole team too.” Keep Reading
