Hollywood Makes a Stand at the Golden Globes

The Golden Globe Awards Ceremony aired on Jan. 7, and was a very significant event for a variety of different reasons. Almost every actor who attended the event wore a Time’s Up badge to support and commemorate their appearance at the awards to those who were victims of sexual harassment. This movement was prompted by the large number of Hollywood actors that have been coming out with stories of being sexually harassed and abused by people in positions of power in the industry. Easter has always been a well-celebrated holiday on the Wesleyan campus. From the lower school Easter egg hunt, to the high school viewing of the 4th grade Easter play, every student has been involved in the celebration of Jesus’s sacrifice and return from the grave.

The 4th graders worked hard for a week to get their Easter play “show ready.” With the help of the 4th grade parents, the show was able to run smoothly for both the parental showings as well as the class viewings.

Teacher and grade chair Sarah Kate Wilson said, “We have an army of moms behind the scenes that work flawlessly to pull off each performance.” All teachers agreed that the show would not go on without the aid of dedicated mothers.

Wesleyan’s winter musicals involve countless hours of pre-planning, practicing, costuming and set design. Director Steve Broyles said, “We set very high expectations for everyone, from ensemble to leads; from choreography to set & lighting design; from costumes to props. That’s the only way we can come to the end, look back, and be completely satisfied that we left it all on the stage.” With over 40 people involved, both on and off stage, the show was counted by actors as a success with help from the lead actors of senior Anna Ree and junior Leandro Haddad.

Ree and Haddad occupied the lead roles of Lilli Vanessi and Frederic Graham respectively, and excelled in bringing these characters to life. Wunderbar, an affectionate duet between Haddad and Ree, established one of the many tender moments in the show, but songs like I Hate Men, sung by Ree, and Where is the Life that Late I Led?, sung by Haddad, showed off the show’s comedic flare.
