What I Wish I Had Known about Standardized Testing

You are startled awake at 7:15 a.m. on a Saturday, thinking you just accidentally set a school alarm despite the weekend. Then, you bolt awake, suddenly remembering today is the dreaded ACT day. Scrambling to scrounge up some #2 pencils from the depths of your backpack, you remember the math section and panic, taking the batteries from your family’s TV remote for your calculator. You throw on some sweatpants with your pajama shirt, pray your printer will hurry up and spit out your ACT admission ticket and hop in the car to make it to your testing center by 8 a.m. You plop down at exactly 7:59 a.m. into your assigned seat at an unfamiliar school.

What is one thing you wished you had done in High School? I wish I had won more state championships.
What are three things you cannot live without? My dog, Biscuit, Chick-Fil-A Breakfast and frilly socks.
What was your dream job when you were a little kid versus what is your dream job now? When I was a youngster I wanted to be a painter. Now I realize that I would like to afford to eat, my dream job is to be a graphic designer or creative director for a major company and eventually own a boutique in Charleston that sells vintage clothing and dog paintings. At this year’s club fair, Wesleyan’s favorite pi-loving, problem-solving team revisited the podium, brandishing their first-place trophy from last year’s state mathematics tournament. The math team is not just a club; they are a close-knit team that competes in many tournaments and often wins. And this year, they are encouraging new recruits to join throughout all the grades.
