When school started in August, most students began to perceive their social lives as “over” or “done for.” Music Midtown, however, is the last opportunity for fun before the full stress of the school year kicks in and social lives are concluded while obtaining a trendy façade.
This past 2016-17 school year was one to remember. Take a trip down memory lane as the Green & Gold staff looks back at some of the most memorable events of the year!
August: The Rio Olympics was a huge success for the United States, with 46 gold medals, 37 silver medals and 38 bronze medals. The 2016 Summer Olympics also featured countless historic and memorable moments such as gymnast Simone Biles’ breakout performace with the “Final Five” women’s gymnastics team and Michael Phelps’ final Olympic Games and record breaking accumulation of his 23rd gold medal. On Aug. 8, Freshmen and Seniors ventured to Carolina Point for the pre-school Freshman Retreat. New students were introduced to Wesleyan culture and get to know new friends and peer leaders. Thousands of fans and music lovers gathered at Piedmont Park to scream at the top of their lungs with their favorite bands and dance in the rain at Music Midtown. With the festival kicking off on Saturday, Sept. 17th, the headliners to see were Twenty-One Pilots, ColleGrove, Beck and G-Easy.
Senior and third time attendant of Music Midtown, Kelsey Strott, expressed that she was most excited to see Twenty-One Pilots on Saturday because she’s “obsessed with them.” Some of Twenty-One Pilots well known songs are “Stressed Out”, “Car Radio”, “Tear In My Heart” and “Ride”. Keep Reading
