Girls’ Basketball Team: Journey to State

After a season full of rebounding, blocking and shooting, the girls’ basketball team’s season ended at the Macon Centreplex on March 6. From October through March, the team invested several hours after school and on weekends improving their basketball skills.

The team officially began their season back in November against Pace Academy and were victorious against them with a win of 64-21. The team was always on the move, as they traveled to different schools for games and tournaments.

Freshman Kaylynn Kirklen said, “My favorite memory from basketball was being in the locker room and dancing with the team before both home and away games.”

Basketball Rebounds into the Winter Season

During the winter season, Yancey Gymnasium is filled with boys and girls playing one sport: basketball. The boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball teams have worked extremely hard during preseason to prepare for the 2018-2019 season.

Sophomore basketball player, Paige Lyons, said, “During the preseason, the girls’ basketball team spends five days doing open gym. We also do strength and conditioning for a couple of weeks before the season officially starts.”

Fall Senior Signing: Wesleyan Student Athletes Continue Their Athletic Careers

With all the talent Wesleyan students have, it is bound to happen that some may commit to play sports at the collegiate level. Each season, there is a signing ceremony where certain athletes officially commit and are celebrated for their athletic accomplishments. This fall, five senior girls participated in the ceremony, playing sports like lacrosse, softball, volleyball and basketball. Girls Basketball Wins 12th State Title

The varsity girls basketball team traveled to Georgia Tech on Friday to compete for the state title. They faced Holy Innocents, a long-time rival, and the same opponent they faced the past 2 years. Wesleyan fell to the Bears twice in the regular season, but they won when it mattered the most, the region championship game. This victory gave them an easier path to the championship. Keep Reading

The Girls Basketball Team Chases Another State Title

The girls basketball team continues to work hard and stay focused, so they can achieve their goal in winning the state championship.

There are eight seniors on the team, so it would be memorable to end their high school careers with a state championship.

The Lady Wolves finished their regular season 24-4, and like the boys team, they will be in the state playoffs as well.

When asked how the team will prepare for the upcoming tournament senior Natalie Armstrong said, “We are preparing by focusing on certain defenses and offenses that will be efficient for the teams that we could potentially play down the road in the state tournament.” Keep Reading
