Varsity and JV Volleyball Setting Up the New Season

The Varsity and JV Volleyball teams have had an amazing season so far.

The stat leaders of the season so far include Senior Grace Tyler with 161 kills, 198 digs, and 32 aces, Sophomore Riley Bryan with 451 assists, 146 digs, and 30 aces, Junior Meredith Mangum with 342 digs, and Sophomore Alden Pridgen with 83 kills, and 22 blocks.

On Senior Night the Varsity Volleyball team played Millcreek and Parkview. They finished the night with a split after their 25-10, 25-17 sweep of Parkview. The top players for Wesleyan (11-13) were Grace Tyler with 26 digs and 19 kills, Riley Bryan with 43 assists and six aces, and Meredith Mangum with 39 digs.

Junior Lindsay Rappe said, “My favorite moment of the season so far was Senior Night. Our team felt more unified as a whole and we had so much fun playing together and celebrating our seniors! Also, this year’s season is much more intense, exciting and competitive than last season. Plus, we do a lot more running.”

So far on the Junior Varsity team, Freshman Lauren Balch leads the team with 53 aces and 107 digs, Freshman Emily Godfrey is leading the team with 104 assists and in serving percentage (91%), Freshman Amber Mathis is leading with 47 kills, Freshman Grace Elsevier is second with 45 kills, Freshman Imani Washington is leading with 11 blocks and is third in kills with 44. The JV team is made up of all freshmen. They are competing against teams made up of mostly sophomores.

Grace Elsevier said, “The highlight of the season for me was during the home tournament when so many of our classmates came to cheer us on. It was so much fun having them there to support us and give us more energy.”
