Wesleyan Students Travel to Washington D.C. for Inauguration

Wesleyan offered an opportunity to Wesleyan students this semester; to experience the inauguration in person. Most people do not get the chance to do this in their lifetime, and Wesleyan students were able to experience it in their high school. Wesleyan worked with an organization called Close-Up, which offers weekly trips to Washington D.C. to learn about the capital and the history of this nation. Wesleyan sent 16 students on the trip. Passion 2017 Makes History in the Georgia Dome

College students and high school seniors from across the world gathered in the Georgia Dome for Passion 2017, Jan. 2-4. Established as an organization aimed at “…uniting students in worship and prayer for spiritual awakening in this generation,” the Passion movement cites Isaiah 26:8 as its theme verse. Founded 20 years ago by Louie Giglio, the first Passion conference was held in Austin, Texas with an attendance of only a couple thousand. Over the years, however, the Passion movement has grown immensely, having currently reached over 20 million students.

Over 50,000 18-25-year-olds convened in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome from Jan. 2-4 to worship, learn and grow in their faith. In fact, over 90 countries were represented. For 6 sessions, students had the opportunity to hear from renowned evangelists such as Francis Chan, John Piper, Katherine and Jay Wolf and founder of the conference, Louie Giglio. Worship artists also included Passion Band, Chris Tomlin and Hillsong United. Carrie Underwood also made a surprise appearance during the night of the first session and sung her Grammy winning, faith driven song “Something in the Water.”

Give Blood, Save Lives

On the third Monday of January each year, Wesleyan and most of America is let out of school to celebrate the birth, life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Born in our very own Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. King was a Baptist preacher. From the mid-1950s until his death, Dr. King headed a pacifist movement for civil rights. Keep Reading

Wesleyan Students Hit the Slopes

While most Wesleyan students spent the weekend sleeping in, watching Netflix and sleeping some more, others joined the Christian Life Ski Retreat that was this past MLK, Jr. weekend, Jan. 13 to Jan. 16 in Ghent, WV. The trip is available for every grade in the high school; it is first come, first serve signup.

A group of 50 students and five faculty members traveled up to Winterplace Ski Resort to hit the slopes. They left before school Friday morning and drove seven hours on a charter bus, only stopping twice for lunch and to pick up their skis. Keep Reading
