A Year In Review: Wesleyan Edition

This past 2016-17 school year was one to remember. Take a trip down memory lane as the Green & Gold staff looks back at some of the most memorable events of the year!
August: The Rio Olympics was a huge success for the United States, with 46 gold medals, 37 silver medals and 38 bronze medals. The 2016 Summer Olympics also featured countless historic and memorable moments such as gymnast Simone Biles’ breakout performace with the “Final Five” women’s gymnastics team and Michael Phelps’ final Olympic Games and record breaking accumulation of his 23rd gold medal. On Aug. 8, Freshmen and Seniors ventured to Carolina Point for the pre-school Freshman Retreat. New students were introduced to Wesleyan culture and get to know new friends and peer leaders. What are your plans for the future? Well, when I stop crying about the reality that I won’t be back next fall, I will settle in to my role as a work from home wife and mom. I am excited to serve wherever God has a place for me. Jeff and I have applied to be foster parents, so I pray that God will open this door for us soon. Finally, I will continue to engage my entrepreneurial heart as a Manager at Beautycounter. Our mission is to put safer personal care products in to the hands of everyone, as we advocate and work to make an impact on a largely unregulated skin care industry in the US. I also hope to sub for Global Justice whenever possible and even fill in as a chaperone on mission trips as needed! Keep Reading

Spring season has started with another middle school play. This spring, the middle school drama department dove under the sea to bring us, “The Little Mermaid.” The play was directed by the Middle School Theater Director, Stephanie Simmons. Keep Reading

Wesleyan Alumni’s Advice to Graduating Seniors

It’s that time of year again where the school days seem to become longer and longer, and summer cannot come fast enough. The sophomores are becoming juniors, the juniors are thinking about colleges and the seniors have mentally already moved into their dorm rooms. While the seniors are passing the time by infecting everyone else with senioritis, some recent Wesleyan alumni have taken a moment to pass down some words of wisdom about what they wish they would have known this time last year and what they have learned since then.

So while you are soaking up every last precious minute of your fleeting high school experience, take this valued advice to heart; these alumni wish they would have.

What is one thing you wish you would’ve known for your first day of college/first college class?

“Talk to the people next to you, even if it’s just hello. You may never speak to them again, or they may become one of your good friends! Both outcomes are okay. Both are normal.” – Emma Anderson, Class of 2016
