Backstage of Sage: The Inside Scoop

in Features by

Whether it is in lower school, middle school or in high school, the students and faculty get the privilege of eating lunch made by Sage Dining. The Green & Gold went “behind the scenes” of Sage Dining to discover more about what the staff does on a daily basis.

One new component that was introduced to the high school this year was the self-serve hot line, rather than staff-served.

Sage Dining manager Jason Meyers said, “The amount of food preparation has definitely increased since self-service has been introduced. Currently, most students load up their plate because the concept is new, and they don’t want to get back in line. I believe it will eventually smooth out.” Keep Reading

Boys’ Basketball Works Hard to Win

in Sports by

The boys’ basketball team is looking forward to their hard work paying off by making it to the state playoffs and even to the state championship. This year, the team has four seniors. After graduating six seniors last year, the team is looking for new leadership from Sean McDonough, Cullen Davis, Grant Frerking and Harrison Cook.

Moving down to Division 1A, the team will face primarily new competition. Because the number one rival for the boys’ team was GAC last year, their hardest competition this season will be Holy Innocents’, St. Francis, Lovett, Marist and St. Pius, according to Assistant Coach Eric Damm.

After failing to make it to the state tournament last year, the team’s goal is to make it into the state playoffs this year.

Junior Christian McLean said that he is most excited for “winning games” this season. He also said that his favorite part of the team are “the tickling sessions after practice and Kyle [Cleveland] dunking on me.”

The team is a close-knit group, with 12 players in total. Senior Sean McDonough said, “My favorite part of the team is the comradery.”

McDonough has verbally committed to Sewanee: The University of the South, and he is the only senior out of the four that has already committed to play basketball in college.

This year the boys’ team will be seeing mostly new competition, and will have to adjust their game plans accordingly.

Assistant Coach Eric Damm said that his favorite part of the team this year is that “[the] team has great chemistry and they have worked extremely hard during the off season. I’m excited to see our new up tempo style of basketball.  We are going to play faster on offense and press more defensively.  This should create more excitement at our games!” said Damm.

The Wesleyan Swim and Dive team dove into their season with a splash. With a tough meet schedule ahead, the Wet Wolves have been working hard, in and out of the pool, to train for success. After losing many strong seniors, the team knows it will take more effort than ever to improve on last year’s season and the accomplishments that came with it.

In a recent interview, head coach Kevin Kadzis said, “Every team is different [and] every year is different. There is carry over year to ye

ar, but this year’s team has a good group of leaders and good group of underclassmen as well. [The team] has great chemistry; I am excited to see where we go.”

Wrestling Hits the Mat for the New Season

in Sports by

This upcoming season poses fierce competition for the Wrestling Wolves, but there is no backing down. The wrestlers are preparing for the season by getting in shape and eating healthier, to ensure their success. “We are practicing every day, conditioning and drilling moves.” said Head Coach, Dennis Stromie.

This season, the Wolves have a stacked team with returning senior and captain, William Delk, leading the pack along with the other top wrestlers, junior George Bielan and sophomore Harrison Dearth.

With most of the team still involved in prior athletic commitments, Stromie said, “We cannot put a whole team together yet due to fall sports still going on, but once football is over we will have our team back.” Once all the members are present in a few weeks, the team will start getting into the groove of the season. Wesleyan Gives Back at Lower School Gratitude Chapel

in Features by

Facilities are like the undercover celebrities of Wesleyan School; they are known and loved by nearly everyone and are always providing for those on campus, whether they realize it or not.

Since the facilities workers are constantly keeping the school up and running in tip-top shape, the lower school students were given an opportunity to say thank you. During the chapel of Nov. 9, every unit of Wesleyan facilities was recognized. Groundskeepers, housekeeping, and Sage Dining chefs were called up to the stage, where they were thanked and applauded for their service to the school. They were also given a “Thanksgiving Blessing Basket” as well as a small monetary gift, both courtesy of lower school families. Keep Reading
