On Super Tuesday, the Georgia Presidential Primary was not the only buzz around the Wesleyan campus. During program time on March 1st, the student body got the privilege of hearing from a unique speaker.  HK Derryberry is a motivational speaker who encourages all to live life to the fullest. Derryberry has cerebral palsy, which is a disease that affects body movement and muscle coordination and is blind, but he has overcome a tremendous amount of adversity to become a successful public speaker.

Derryberry and Jim Bradford, his mentor and friend, inspire people across the world. They have made over 50 appearances and have talked to over 8,000 people since  2011. Derryberry’s story is one of overcoming tremendous odds. He was born weighing two pounds and three months prematurely causing a number of health issues. As we come toward the end of the year, the Christian Life theme starts to hit its main focus. This focus starts with March’s theme, “you are a child of God.” Once a person devotes themselves to Christ, they become a Citizen of Heaven and being a Citizen of Heaven also means you are a child of God.

The verses for the month are John 1:12-13 and Romans 8:14-16. John 1:12-13 reads “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” Romans 8:14-16 “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” Keep Reading

Top Places to Visit at Wesleyan

in Backpage by

School Store- The School Store has been one of the most successful additions to the Wesleyan campus ever. From the Pop Tarts to the groovy outerwear, the Wesleyan Spirit Shop provides students with a variety of reasonably priced goods. Do not forget about the mothers who work there, they are sweethearts, and they have Chick-fil-a, which is a must at Wesleyan.

Yancey Weight Room- The weight room provides students with the ability to get yoked and hang out with the one and only Mr. Coach Wolf Sir. If this is not tempting enough, it is home to an honorable mention on my top water fountains. Keep Reading

Peer Group Check-In

in Features by

Peer Groups are a long standing tradition dating back to 2000. The Green & Gold asked a freshmen from each of the twelve groups the following questions to check in on how they have gone so far.

  1. What is your favorite part of peer groups?
  2. What have peer groups done for you?
  3. Has your experience helped you this year?

Sophie Parsonnet (Parents: Hannah Peterson & Chris Middleton)-

  1. My favorite part about peer groups is when we do “family” outings together somewhere out of school.
  2. Peer groups has made me reach out to other students in my grade that I may have not talked to as much.
  3. Yes this experience has helped me so much this year because it lets me get to know the seniors better and not be as scared of them as I would be.

The Christian life theme for the month of Feb. is “You are a citizen of Heaven.” This theme is a follow up of last month’s theme of “You are Redeemed.” Once a person is redeemed, he or she becomes a citizen of heaven. The verses for the month are Philippians 3:20-21, 1 Peter 2:11-12 and John 18:37.
