Wesleyan Continues the Easter Play Tradition

Easter has always been a well-celebrated holiday on the Wesleyan campus. From the lower school Easter egg hunt, to the high school viewing of the 4^th grade Easter play, every student has been involved in the celebration of Jesus’s sacrifice and return from the grave.

The 4^th graders worked hard for a week to get their Easter play “show ready.” With the help of the 4^th grade parents, the show was able to run smoothly for both the parental showings as well as the class viewings.

Teacher and grade chair Sarah Kate Wilson said, “We have an army of moms behind the scenes that work flawlessly to pull off each performance.” All teachers agreed that the show would not go on without the aid of dedicated mothers.

Wesleyan Brings “Kiss Me, Kate” Alive

Wesleyan’s winter musicals involve countless hours of pre-planning, practicing, costuming and set design. Director Steve Broyles said, “We set very high expectations for everyone, from ensemble to leads; from choreography to set & lighting design; from costumes to props. That’s the only way we can come to the end, look back, and be completely satisfied that we left it all on the stage.” With over 40 people involved, both on and off stage, the show was counted by actors as a success with help from the lead actors of senior Anna Ree and junior Leandro Haddad.

Ree and Haddad occupied the lead roles of Lilli Vanessi and Frederic Graham respectively, and excelled in bringing these characters to life. Wunderbar, an affectionate duet between Haddad and Ree, established one of the many tender moments in the show, but songs like I Hate Men, sung by Ree, and Where is the Life that Late I Led?, sung by Haddad, showed off the show’s comedic flare. Taking a Peek into Wesleyan’s Winter Sports

The Wesleyan Winter Wolves are currently nearing the end of their respective seasons. With swimming, basketball and wrestling nearing a close, athletes share their hopes for the remainder of their seasons.

Freshman swimmer, Hannah Wasmuth, has set specific goals to achieve in before the state meet at Georgia Tech. “Before going to Georgia Tech, I want to improve on my technique, so I can be at my best for the state meet,” Wasmuth said. Many other swimmers attended challenging practices over the Christmas break. “No days off!” swimmers said.

Out of the water, the varsity girls’ basketball team has also been preparing for their state tournament. “Our team is feeling really good about our accomplishments this season,” sophomore Caroline Burke said. “That being said, we have some tough competition ahead of us, so we have to keep working hard,” said Burke. Color Guard Transitions to Winter Guard

Out with the old, and in with the new; with the closing of a competitive color guard season, a new type of competition emerges. That new type of competition is winter guard. The two similar sports are distinctly different in their ways of presenting the skills of the team. The dropping of temperatures indicates the transition from the color guard to winter guard season for many young female athletes.

“Our shows all came together really well. They all have a story plot and a well thought-out design that people could observe from the stands,” sophomore Madeline Metz said on color guard. Keep Reading
