It is a new year, and that means that it is time for the start of the spring sports season. All of Wesleyan’s spring athletes and coaches are preparing for tryouts or the beginning of practice. The Wolves’ spring sports teams had a record-breaking last year, but now they are getting ready for their best season yet. Here is what the Wolves will be up to this spring:
As December arrives quickly, Wesleyan students find themselves stressing over their final exams and report cards. A familiar feeling that returns every year. However, Wesleyan students are not the only ones stressing out over papers and finals. Many Wesleyan teachers have gone back to school themselves, taking classes at night in pursuit of advanced degrees. These classes are with other teachers who are pursuing the same type of advanced degrees. In fact, one group of Wesleyan teachers have decided to go through this process together.
Wesleyan teachers Brian Krehmeyer, Mitchell Mayfield, Leah Baughn, Jamie Hemken, Alex Bufton and Kali Sessions are taking night school classes together at Wesleyan pursing a masters degree. They typically meet every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The program that these teachers are involved in is based out of Gordon College, which is a Christian college in Wenham, MA. The Wesleyan athletics program has been extremely successful with sending high school students to play at the collegiate level. With the help of families and coaches, the end of their journey marks their final decision, “Where do I see myself next?” Here are the following highlighted students: Lucy Mitchell, Reece Holbrook and Druw Jones, each with their own unique journey.
Lucy Mitchell:
From the first step on Notre Dame’s main campus to the women’s soccer field, senior Lucy Mitchell, felt most at home in South Bend, Indiana. Her commitment process was made easier because she loved the overall culture that Notre Dame offered. With senior year flying by, she is extremely excited for this last season with the Lady Wolves’ soccer team and what the futures holds for her at Notre Dame next fall.
How long have you been playing soccer?
“Since I was probably three or four, as long as I can remember.”
When did you realize you wanted to play in college?
“It has always been a dream of mine to play in college, but probably when I was 13 or so, I realized it was actually a possibility.”

The Social Science department at Wesleyan influences students in various ways, including in the classroom or through extra-curricular activities. Every social science teacher shared their sweet or sour moments while teaching.
The countdown to homecoming has already begun, and this year’s theme is Ancient Civilizations: A Celebration for the Ages.
During Homecoming week, students dress up for different themes each day, and Friday is focused on the Ancient Era. Each grade has a different theme all contributing to the big picture of Ancient Civilizations. On Friday, seniors will become ancient figures and rulers, juniors will transform into the structures and ancient artifacts, sophomores will be the building blocks of society and freshmen will take on the end of an era.
