Fall Sports Recap 2019

in Sports by

As the winter season of 2019 approaches, the Wesleyan fall sports are coming to an end. Each team has trained hard over the summer into the fall to complete a successful season that has made Wesleyan proud. Each team has shown dedication to their sport and the school by training rigorously to gain both victories and humbling experiences this fall. The outcome of each of these five sports has made this season one of Wesleyan’s best.

Water Polo:

The water polo team has just ended their best season since 2015, with an impressive eight wins, eight losses and one tie out of their seventeen games. Coach Kevin Kadzis said success was achieved this season from commitment by the team to playing their unique style of water polo. Kadzis said their best game took place in September, when the team beat Collins Hill High School even though they were down one player, and it was “awesome to see our team work together and overcome the odds to beat a good team when we were at a disadvantage.” The season started right after school began in August and ended on Sept. 29, and Kadzis said seniors Connor Beaty, Will Miller, Jack Godfrey and Isaiah Erb were the team’s leaders. Kadzis said, “We couldn’t have had a non-losing season without these guys,” showing the enthusiasm and diligence of this season’s water polo team. Keep Reading

By a Slim Margin, the Tide Defeats the Bulldogs Once Again

in Sports by

Hearts pounding. Nerves rattling. Football is just a game, right? Wrong. Tears, confetti, fans fleeing and fists in the air. One is a champion and one fell to defeat. This game was not an ordinary conference championship game. It meant more. There was history between the coaches, the teams and the fan bases. On the field, battling it out to decide the others fate, and the victorious champions of the SEC are the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Money flying in the air, did someone just waste it or spend it wisely?  Alabama and Georgia were back at it again. As for Georgia fans that phrase leaves a bitter taste in their mouths. And, for Alabama fans, it is always sweet. This was supposed to be revenge in the Benz for the dawgs, but they failed to complete the mission.

Thirty five out of the thirty-six weeks of the Wesleyan school year are filled with countless assessments, Bible papers and piles of homework; Homecoming Week is the one week out of the year where school becomes a little less serious. It is a time where students trade the uniforms for silly costumes and this year, the school went from a normal high school in Georgia to the red carpet in Hollywood.

The State Football Championship Team Celebrates 10th Anniversary

in Sports by

As the highly recognized State Championship football team returned for the celebration of their 10th year anniversary, many former players shared moments, lessons and feelings of the one game that made their hard work worthwhile.

On Oct. 19, at the Wesleyan homecoming football game, the State Championship team was acknowledged for their achievement 10 years ago. The nostalgia of the high school experience was more likely in full effect, as the Friday night lights shined down upon them one more time. They got to bask in the glory of, to some of them, the best days of their lives.

Former football player and Alumnus Scott Schroer (’10) said, “I think I miss the people the most. The coaches, players, cheerleaders and managers all made that year so unique and the fact that I got to play 15 games with all my best friends, and also win, was really special.”

College Football: Who Will Re19n This Year?

in Sports by

Although the months of Aug. and Sept. are usually poignant reminders of the beginning of school, in the world of sports these months are a sign of excitement and feelings of hope for victory in the months to come. College football is a great time for college students to bond, diehard fans to rival against each other and bandwagon fans to resort to the team coming out on top. Although football is not for everyone, the atmosphere of college football is a treat in itself, even without the football.

The previous college football season ended on, well, not that much of a shocker. The Alabama Crimson Tide was victorious and defeated the Georgia Bulldogs in overtime, with a pass into the endzone leaving Georgia fans in tears and Alabama fans in triumph, yet again. UGA fanatic and junior Josh Morris said, “by far the Most upsetting event last season was watching Georgia lose to Alabama in the National Championship.” After feeling like their football team was going to do it after 37 years, Georgia fans were in dismay, but the team and fans are hoping to have bounced back ready to attack the day this season.
